One possibility is that Morrison uses Hurt to stand in for himself. Another is ... well, it's suggested in Batman RIP, but ultimately disproved ... or is it? And the third is that Hurt is actually another Bat-villain in disguise ... I've said too much. Think of Grant Morrison's entire run - Batman and Son, The Black Glove and Batman R.I.P. as one long novel. I mean, you can still understand what's going on if you read R.I.P. on its own, but you'd be missing out on quite a bit.

Fantastic review, by the way.Jeffrey Hardy Quahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00011880432832659089noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-18521831555704279332009-05-28T15:55:53.836-05:002009-05-28T15:55:53.836-05:00Wanted to say more about the deluxe format, but ha...Wanted to say more about the deluxe format, but had to balance with making the review too long. I'd say the larger size works really well -- I'd buy a hardcover any day with that added value.

The book starts off with a selection from DC Universe #0 on the first pages, before even the title page or "credits"; in that way it's almost like watching a movie. Worth it for the deluxe edition in my opinion.collectededitionshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14698269790653953645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-79538043727613338312009-05-28T15:06:01.941-05:002009-05-28T15:06:01.941-05:00I have to say I really enjoyed your review as you ...I have to say I really enjoyed your review as you covered the story extremely well. I was hoping you would comment on the presentation of the hardcover specifically i.e. re-colouring, issues contained, extras. That to me is why I purchase the hardcover rather then the regular issues. Still a great review. Keep it up!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-71354474533385654422009-05-28T10:49:11.522-05:002009-05-28T10:49:11.522-05:00I was satisfied with Tony Daniel's art on Batman R...I was satisfied with Tony Daniel's art on Batman RIP -- wasn't blown away, but I enjoyed it the whole time. Thought he did a good job especially with the big villain reveal. Love JH Williams' work, though; I'm looking forward to seeing him on Detective Comics with Batwoman.

The Batman RIP softcover is solicited now for February 2010. That date may shift a little, but you can expect early 2010 (still a long way off!). I'm not a fan of the hardcovers, but would really like to pick this up. 2010? Amazing blog, btw. Just found it this week, and it's become an addiction already.

EricAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-35701569773753519932009-05-28T10:37:44.572-05:002009-05-28T10:37:44.572-05:00What did you think of Tony Daniel, and later Lee G...What did you think of Tony Daniel, and later Lee Garbett's art in this? I thought your views on the story and Morrison's writing were similar to mine - I regard RIP to be one of the best Batman storylines written - and I thought with an artist like JH Williams III or Irving Frazier this may have become the one definitive Batman story.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15993846531894876642noreply@blogger.com
