Too bad its gone by relatively unnoticed. barbahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10663698885602566147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-84305674872323593722012-11-16T12:34:40.145-06:002012-11-16T12:34:40.145-06:00Here's a cool interview with Simonson about &q...Here's a cool interview with Simonson about "The Judas Coin", if you're still on the fence: http://www.sfsite.com/columns/graphica380.htmdoug.glassmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18018711097234509826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-27856665766815353022012-11-15T09:51:32.452-06:002012-11-15T09:51:32.452-06:00No mention of the Sandman Slipcase Set? I've already got Stumptown and the Earth One books, but I'll definetely put Saga and Underwater Welder on my wishlist, along with the definitive Whiteout edition (not of this year, but I don't have it yet) and the new Scene of the Crime HC.Spookyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07370993300280714554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-54773217280502975392012-11-14T11:22:31.067-06:002012-11-14T11:22:31.067-06:00A lot of it depends on how Trinity War is set up. ...A lot of it depends on how Trinity War is set up. AvX, for instance, needs the VS issues because they expand on the fights.

Marvel's gotten really bad about this lately--I haven't reviewed "Fear Itself: Iron Man" or "Fear Itself: Journey Into Mystery" yet, for instance, because of the huge gaps in the stories filled in by the main crossover. At the same time, the main book requires these tie-ins.

It didn't used to be this bad. The Secret Invasion tie-ins were far more stand-alone, and even the Siege tie-ins were more about side adventures.doug.glassmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18018711097234509826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-43784308076425560402012-11-14T11:17:10.596-06:002012-11-14T11:17:10.596-06:00I have often thought that if DC would publish omni...I have often thought that if DC would publish omnibus versions first, they could just have my money. If, for instance, they published Absolute Final Crisis (not omnibus, but the point still stands) before the Final Crisis hardcover, I'd have bought it for certain. I love the big, over-sized, packed to bursting with issues deluxe editions; I just don't love waiting five years after the original series to get an Absolute and omnibus, and won't wait, for that matter.

Maybe I'm in the minority and if they tried something like that they'd lost sales, not gain 'em, but obviously Marvel sees some potential here. Trinity War Omnibus as the first collection -- do I hear it?collectededitionshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14698269790653953645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-67351312182614660772012-11-14T11:12:41.532-06:002012-11-14T11:12:41.532-06:00Marvel made a weird decision with AvX by essential...Marvel made a weird decision with AvX by essentially publishing the omnibus version first. The huge hardcover includes the main series, the AvX Vs. mini and the Infinite comics. We're not getting separate paperbacks until around March.

I know this is a wait-for-trade site, but I also have to recommend the "A-Babies vs. X-Babies" one-shot because I doubt it'll get collected unless it goes in the AvX Vs. trade. It's an adorable spoof of AvX with a lot of fun in-jokes. I tried finding it in stores, but eventually I got it on Comixology.doug.glassmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18018711097234509826noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10945794.post-56585781933174665812012-11-14T10:37:31.733-06:002012-11-14T10:37:31.733-06:00Jordan, thanks for your comment and welcome aboard...Jordan, thanks for your comment and welcome aboard! I just want to say I just found your blog and I LOVE it.

In recent years I've become a totally dorky graphic novel buying nut (that sale Barnes and Noble had for the past 2 months where you buy 2 DC books and get a 3rd free did not help...I bought like 50 books...), and I've used your blog a lot to figure out the organization of all these collections and omnibuses, and which are worth seeking out.

Anyway your blog is perfect for me. Just wanted to say that!

As for gift recommendations, agreed about The Unwritten and Walking Dead. I would add:

Incognito (The Classified Edition) by Ed Brubacker. I just read this last week, and the only problem with it is you are dying for more when the 11 issue series ends. But so, so great.

I haven't read it yet, but I just received Jack Kirby's The Demon omnibus in the mail and after flipping through, I am really looking forward to it.

-JordanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
