It’s a good thing we had the DC Comics Spring 2024 collections solicitations earlier this month, because there’s not a whole lot to get excited about in the DC Comics November 2023 trade paperback and hardcover solicitations.
Notably, things are not as dire as these solicitations might suggest, as these “November 2023” books actually come out in December and January, and both previous and forthcoming solicitations will add some books to those weeks. But indeed, there’s more here for readers who’ve been waiting for the paperbacks of hardcovers than there is for those of us who want the latest and greatest.
To wit, about the only real first-run “regular series” collection in these listings is the second volume of Christopher Priest’s Black Adam, which deals with fallout from Dark Crisis. There is also DC Power: A Celebration that I’m excited about — I’m glad that DC seems to be now regularly reprinting in “collections” form their DC Power, DC Pride, and DC: Festival of Heroes books; not necessarily a “regular series,” but at least a “first-run” collection. Otherwise we’re in to Batman Vol. 6: Abyss1, the Detective Comics Batman: Shadows of the Bat books, Tom Taylor’s Nightwing Vol. 2, and other such paperback reprints of books already released in hardcover.
So a slow month, but also not wholly unexpected as we reach the end of the year. Let’s take a look.

I saw an Abyss action figure the other day — an action figure of a character who’s appeared in just six one-off issues of a Batman comic. Astounding! ↩︎
