Odds and Ends for 6-27-18

A little behind-the-scenes content for you today. This was just going to be a soft update on the Facebook page (you have Liked the Facebook page, right?), but then it got a little more complicated so I thought I'd post it here.

The first bit of good news is that I've just updated the DC Trade Paperback Timeline for the first time in 2018 with 48(!) new titles added, ranging from my beloved Titans: Total Chaos all the way through DC Rebirth books on the precipice of Dark Nights: Metal. Please check it out, share, spread the word, and enjoy.

The second news is that, while it may not be as apparent in the front of the house, there's been a lot of work going on behind-the-scenes at Collected Editions to streamline and make my processes more efficient. To that end, and recognizing that the DC TPB Timeline hasn't been updated in almost a year, I'm committed to making an update to the Timeline every month for the next six months. Obviously all of those updates won't have 48 titles, but I'm going to try to keep the Timeline more current, more quickly. You should see some new content every month for the rest of the year.

However, in updating the Timeline just now, something unexpected happened ... we've outgrown the size of the post that holds the DC TPB Timeline! For that reason, you'll now notice that the DC TPB Timeline has a "page 2." This should suffice for a while, with the Timeline split evenly between the two pages, but as it grows more I'll migrate content between the two pages until both are filled up (it's taken more than 10 years to fill the first, so I think we'll be OK for a while). Right now Legends through Final Crisis is on the first page, and Blackest Night through Rebirth and my Pre-Crisis Recommendations are on the second page.

Effectively, my hope is that you won't see a lot of difference. The Timeline table of contents links over to the second page automatically and there's a link at the bottom of page 1 to page 2, so hopefully navigation will be somewhat seamless. If you think there's a way this could all be presented better, don't hesitate to let me know here or on the Timeline comments page. The Timeline changelog is at the bottom of page 2, but I'm going to start posting changelog updates to the Collected Editions Facebook page, too, so that's another way that you can keep up if you want to.

Another development at Collected Editions is that I've been making strides whittling down my reading pile, and I am current or almost current on a bunch of series. Looking ahead through the month of July, almost every review on the way is for a book released within the last four to six weeks. I want Collected Editions to be the place you come to talk as soon as you finish reading your weekly haul, and we're in a better position for that than ever before. I hope you enjoy what's coming up.

Thanks for reading, supporting the site, and letting other people know about Collected Editions. Don't miss my look at the DC Comics September 2018 collections solicitations. See you 'round the spinner rack!

  1. Good work as always. When can we expect the spring 2019 solicitations list. I always like looking far ahead as possible. It sometimes dictates what I buy now

Excellent news about the more frequent updates. With all the backfill lately (esp. with new 90s-era collections), looking forward to seeing more back-dated content like you did with Total Chaos.

    1. Glad you're excited. Timeline updates tend to map to reviews and a lot of that will be newer-era stuff, but I'll try to work in a little older material.
